October 13, 2010 – IBM announced its intent to purchase PSS Systems, a provider of analytics and business process management software for legal electronic discovery and information disposal.

IBM stated it would integrate PSS Systems’ software into the content management, analytics and e-discovery search solutions in its company software group and Information Lifecycle Governance suite, according to a news release. With the proposed acquisition, IBM would seek to deliver software to coordinate policy decisions for data retention and disposal across high volumes of information for CIOs and legal officers, the company stated in a news release.

PSS Systems, based in Mountain View, Calif., is a privately held company whose clients include seven of the top 10 companies on the Fortune 500 list. The company also founded the Compliance, Governance and Oversight Council, a corporate practitioner’s forum with more than 800 members.

Financial terms of the proposed deal were not disclosed in company news releases.
