IBM announced a new hardware and software solution designed to help small- and mid-sized clients address the challenges of email management and governance, improve email efficiency and support legal requests.

The new IBM CommonStore E-Mail Archiving Solution, the latest in IBM's portfolio of compliance capabilities, is a hardware and software solution that helps clients quickly install and automate email management and improve email system performance. It allows email to be easily and quickly retrieved to satisfy compliance audit reviews and legal discovery orders.

Available through IBM Business Partners, the solution works with existing email servers to offload email and attachments from the messaging system to provide virtually unlimited user mailbox space and improve system operations, while preserving -mail in an archive for long term access. Quick installation - less than one day - helps deliver value faster since comparable archiving solutions can take days or even weeks to install and configure.

"The IBM E-Mail Archiving Solution enables our resellers to capitalize on growing demand for more efficient e-mail storage and management among their small and mid-sized customers," said Pete Peterson, vice president of Tech Data Systems Product Marketing, an IBM Business Partner. "This is another important offering from Tech Data's IBM One Team to help resellers quickly deploy the type of high value solutions customers demand."

Powered by IBM BladeCenter servers based on the latest AMD Opteron processor, with industry-leading performance-per-watt to provide clients with advanced business-performance computing, it comes completely preloaded and pre-tested with IBM DB2 Content Manager and IBM DB2 CommonStore to support IBM Lotus Notes or Microsoft Exchange. It also includes Tivoli Storage Manager, software that manages IBM and multivendor storage systems, and WebSphere Application Server, for an end-to-end approach to email archive management.

"This preloaded email archiving solution is an example of how IBM and AMD are working together to help clients address some of their most pressing business needs," said Terri Hall, vice president of Software Alliances and Solutions, AMD. "By offering the ability to manage email archiving from a single tool based on IBM BladeCenter servers powered by AMD Opteron processors, IBM is delivering another high-value solution to the small and mid-sized market."

IBM is also announcing new software for search and advanced discovery of email messages, to help clients use compliance regulations as an opportunity to transform key business processes and improve efficiency.

IBM E-Mail Search for CommonStore for Lotus Domino and Microsoft Exchange helps clients retrieve email messages for regulatory purposes or to comply with legal discovery orders. Using a Web-based interface, IBM E-Mail Search for CommonStore provides refined search capabilities of emails and attachments, and the ability to place emails on hold to prevent time-based disposition of the email. IBM DB2 Records Manager can be added for records management, auditing and reporting of email. Both can be added to the IBM CommonStore E-Mail Archiving Preload solution for enhanced compliance and litigation support.
