It’s official: IBM is now the owner of Informix’s database business. For a price tag of $1 billion, IBM says that it is doubling the size of its distributed database business and adding more than 2,500 Informix employees to its work force.

The distributed database business will report to Janet Perna, general manager of IBM Data Management Solutions. IBM will incorporate select Informix technologies into future versions of DB2 Universal Database, which will remain IBM’s flagship database project.
