i2 Technologies, Inc. and IBM announced the delivery of on demand supply chain solutions. Building on the success of their global strategic alliance, the offerings include IBM's on demand operating environment with i2 supply chain solutions to deliver value to customers who prefer solutions built on an open, standards-based operating environment.
IBM and i2 share a number of customers in a variety of industries. For instance, Continental Tire, based in Hannover, Germany, has used i2 solutions and IBM hardware, middleware and services to optimize its supply chain.
"A core business of Continental AG is our tire business. For tire companies, supply chain efficiency is a key driver for success. Many of our customers are automotive manufacturers who build cars all over the world, making for a very complex supply chain. We use i2 solutions to improve demand forecasting, production planning and distribution planning. i2 has enabled Continental to move from a manufacturing view to a business process view of supply chain management," said Paul Schwefer, CIO, Continental AG.
"The IBM-i2 relationship and joint development efforts are valuable to our organization. The work IBM and i2 do together to test and certify i2 applications for IBM infrastructure has reduced the total cost of ownership and reduced the time it has taken our company to implement the i2 solution," said Schwefer.
i2's closed-loop supply chain solutions are designed to help companies optimize and synchronize activities involved in successfully managing supply and demand. This includes:
· Transportation and distribution solutions to enable companies to procure, plan, execute and monitor freight movements.
· Order fulfillment workflows to help organizations provide improved customer satisfaction through proactive order visibility, accurate real-time responses to requests, and improved delivery performance.
· Sourcing and procurement workflows to enable sourcing decisions to streamline operations and help improve profitability.
· Demand solutions for more effectively managing customer demand, and
· Supply solutions to help make supply chains more agile and efficient while optimally positioning inventory.
"The IBM-i2 alliance offers customers the ability to focus on business transformation supported by i2 solutions and open, standards-based middleware. Further, the IBM industry specialists in Business Consulting Services are experienced in the dynamics of supply chain transformation and can help enable business process improvement, solution implementation and change control," said Susan Hed, vice president, i2 Alliance, IBM.
"Joint customers benefit from the many technology advances accomplished by IBM and i2 engineers within the IBM International Competency Centers for i2, co-located with i2 at its Corporate Headquarters in Dallas and at the i2 Solution Center in Bangalore, India. For example, the IBM eServer Intel processor-based xSeries team highlighted the results from recent application performance testing with i2's Supply Chain Planner application on the Intel Itanium 2 processor-based xSeries 455 at i2 Planet this week," said Charlie Latch, vice president, i2 Global Alliances.
All i2 solutions are supported by i2 Supply Chain Operating Services (SCOS), a standards-based, open and unified architecture to run collaboration and planning solutions across its supply chains, and Content and Data Services designed to leverage the latest emerging technologies and standards to improve a company's content and data quality. SCOS is designed to support IBM Websphere, among other standard platforms.
IBM's on demand operating environment offers a set of integration and infrastructure management capabilities that customers and partners can utilize, in a modular and incremental fashion, to enable the transformation to e-business on demand.
i2 applications support IBM eServer xSeries and pSeries, the IBM AIX operating system, WebSphere and DB2. In addition, IBM Business Consulting Services (BCS) is one of i2's largest system integration and transformation partners and IBM is one of i2's largest customers having used i2 solutions as part of its own supply chain transformation.
