Q:

I have a question on the Sybase IQ's performance. Could you discusses the different performances of SybaseIQ with other DW engines, or send me to a Web site or white paper that could?

A:

Joe Oates’ Answer: I can only relate what I have seen in proof of concept (POC) projects where two or three databases, one of which was Sybase IQ. These POCs had raw data sizing from 0.25 terabytes to more than five terabytes. Some of the differences that I observed include:

  • High degree of data compression – the loaded IQ databases were half the size, or smaller, than the other RDBMSs.
  • Very high query performance without having to extensively tune.
  • The ability to share a common image across many low-cost computers for very high scalability (multiplex capability).
  • Continuous loading of data – did not have to bring the data warehouse down to load data.

Your question goes beyond the scope of this forum, but I am sure that you can find the information that you need at www.sybase.com/products/bi/asiq.
