Q:

I am working on my master's degree in information systems and am planning to concentrate in data warehousing. I also have a bachelor's degree in accounting. I was wondering if this would be a right mix and if I can utilize my accounting background (CPA) with data warehousing? Where should I start with a data warehousing career and what are the career opportunities available to students?

A:

Sid Adelman's Answer: A significant percentage of data warehouses are being built for financial systems and your background in accounting and your credentials should make you a valuable resource. You could either sell yourself to the IT department or to the finance department. I'd first contact the finance departments in your organizations of choice and ask them what they are doing with the data warehouse or, more generically, decision support.
