Q:

I am an IS VP for a Canadian retailer, and I was asked by our CFO to state why the business needs a data warehouse. Any advice? Thanks.

A:

Sid Adelman's Answer: The most important reason is that your competition has one. Your competition is now in a position to steal your customers, to negotiate a better price and terms with your suppliers, to more effectively manage the inventory and to better plan and evaluate promotions. Your competition will be working with the kind of information your mangers need to effectively run the business. In short, your company only needs a data warehouse if you plan to stay in business.
