San Jose, Calif., May 10, 2000 – HiT Software launched a new product named Allora, Web interoperability middleware that gives application developers high- performance XML access to relational databases. HiT Allora gives IT organizations the advantage of a consistent XML data access model, synchronous SQL transaction access, asynchronous message queue access and significantly higher performance compared to generic DOM development. Allora is a World Wide Web Consortium Document Object Model (DOM) implementation designed specifically for relational database access.

HiT Allora enables XML representation of relational databases. It offers two powerful modes: catalog browsing and SQL query. In the catalog-browsing mode, the entire DBMS catalog can be dynamically browsed to retrieve information about catalogs, schemas, tables and columns. With the SQL query mode, queries can be executed against an RDB server and result sets returned as an XML document. Large result sets are handled very efficiently so application performance does not suffer. XML data is generated on the fly, and there is no need for schema validation. This combination of features immediately gives Web application developers capabilities that save time and enhance run-time performance. Allora supports OLEDB, ODBC and JDBC interfaces.
