HealthStar Physicians, a multi-specialty physicians group serving Eastern Tennessee, is deploying three cloud-based services from athenahealth, a provider of services such as practice management, electronic health records and care coordination for medical groups.

HealthStar’s physician network consists of more than 60 medical providers representing 18 medical specialty areas. The company’s facilities service more than 300,000 patients a year across six counties in Tennessee.

Among the athenahealth services HealthStar will implement are athenaCollector for medical billing and practice management; athenaClinicals for EHR management; and athenaCommunicator for patient communications management and expanded accessibility for patients after-hours and on weekends.

In combination, the cloud services will provide HealthStar with a single, integrated practice management and clinical platform that is designed to help improve care and patient communications.

“Healthcare is an industry that needs to recognize that it’s vital for organizations to embrace new technology,” Don Lee, HealthStar Physicians CEO, said in a statement. “As we searched for services to help improve certain clinical processes, reduce costs, and improve patient communications, it quickly became apparent that [athenahealth’s cloud-based offering] was the answer.”
