The 12th annual DAMA International Symposium and the 4th annual Meta Data Conference will be held from March 19-March 23, 2000, in Washington, D.C. This is a collocated event between DAMA International and Wilshire Conferences (formerly Technology Transfer Institute).

As we stand on the cusp of the next millennium, IT professionals have the opportunity to influence and contribute to their organizations more than at any previous time in history. Keeping up to date on the latest technologies and practices has never been more important. In recognition of these opportunities, the DAMA International Symposium and Meta Data Conference have been expanded to include two preconference workshops, six conference tracks, six tutorials and more than 60 presentations. A new educational agenda has also been added to focus on data management and the Internet.

The Symposium features presentations on nearly every topic of importance to information management professionals, including data modeling, package integration, business rules, data stewardship, data quality, data warehousing, facilitation, knowledge management, repository implementation and meta data management. The conference includes presentations from practitioners from the following organizations: Polaroid, Dun & Bradstreet, Prudential, United Parcel Service, Mayo Clinic, Ingersoll Rand, the State Department, the U.S. Patent Office, T. Rowe Price, USAA, General Motors, First Union Bank, Boeing and Experian.

Keynote presenters include Doug Hackney and Graeme Simsion. Preconference workshops will be given by Michael Brackett, who will present an "Introduction to Meta Data," and John Zachman who will focus on "Enterprise Architecture versus Technical Architecture."

Full day tutorials include: "Data Warehouse Management" by Claudia Imhoff, "XML and Data Management" by Clive Finkelstein, "Meta Data Management" by David Marco, "Logical to Physical Data Modeling" by Bill Smith, "Applying Business Rules in 2000" by Ron Ross, and "Information Quality in the Data Warehouse" by Larry English.

Other presenters include Barbara von Halle on "Mining Business Rules from Legacy Systems," Ron Shelby on "Information and Knowledge Management at General Motors," Bernie Boar on "Understanding Data Warehousing Strategically," Peter Aiken on "Reverse Engineering," Dave Hay on "Advanced Modeling Patterns," Terry Halpin on "Data Use Cases and Business Rules," Len Silverston on "Data Modeling Pitfalls and Solutions Using Universal Data Models," Bob Seiner on "Meta Data Architecture," and Burt Parker on "Data Stewardship: The Why and How; The Right Way and the Wrong Way."
