In the debut of this column last month, we described DAMA's mission and new partnership with DM Review. This column, along with the DAMA Chapters and Events Calendar, will be a regular feature of our DAMA page. The calendar will include information about our local chapters, as well as non-DAMA events that offer discounts to DAMA members. In the months ahead, look to this column for DAMA news and practical resources for data management professionals. This month, we survey some of the services and resources that DAMA offers.
DAMA's lifeblood and foremost resource is the activity of the local chapters. It is through chapter meetings that data management practitioners meet to share knowledge, ideas, current practices and new techniques, as well as to make and maintain personal contacts, so vital in our profession. We invite all DM Review readers--current DAMA members or not--to take advantage of the opportunities offered by DAMA meetings to both share and contribute.
DAMA's thirty-two chapters, located across seven nations, are autonomously operated, while networked together and centrally supported by DAMA International. DAMA International also serves many "members at large" worldwide who are not located near an active local chapter. For more information contact Lynn Tenney, VP Member Services, at (415) 984-5762 or Lynn_Tenney@compuserve.com.
DAMA's partnership with DM Review is an example of the central support provided by DAMA International.
Other services include:
DAMA Discounts: DAMA International negotiates and publicizes discounts for DAMA chapter members on various products, services and conferences. See our Web site for details, or contact Burt Parker, VP Industry Services, at (703) 979-9499 or email@example.com.
Financial Services: DAMA International provides insurance and credit card processing for the local DAMA chapters. For more information, contact Paul Hawes, VP Finance, at (732) 699-3209 or firstname.lastname@example.org
WWW.DAMA.ORG: DAMA International maintains a robust, no-nonsense Web site to publicize information of interest and practical use to data management professionals everywhere. Besides information about the DAMA chapters, contacts and services outlined on this page, the DAMA Web site contains an IRM bibliography, conference calendar, vendor list, the Speakers Bureau and countless links to other reputable IRM pages.
Next month, we'll review additional DAMA services and resources, including education and certification programs, publications and conference services. Meanwhile, we'd love to hear from you. Contact us at email@example.com.
