As the premier vendor-independent association for data management professionals, DAMA has long supported formal certification in our field. In 1993, DAMA Chicago worked with the Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals (ICCP) to develop the Data Resource Management (DRM) specialty exam, one of several experience-based tests leading to certification as a computing professional.
In response to several requests over the last few years from members looking for a comprehensive overview of data architecture and data resource management topics, DAMA Chicago has developed the DRM Exam Review Course. The course covers all of the topics covered in the ICCP DRM exam and will be available this fall.
Similar to review courses presented by other professional organizations, such as the Project Management Institute's Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, the DRM Exam Review Course is a brush-up and study review guide for people planning to take the one and one-half hour DRM exam. The ICCP will extend a discount on the normal cost of the examination to course participants.
The course uses the 1999 DAMA publication, Guidelines for Data Resource Management Standards, in addition to study materials prepared by the topic leaders. Additional details about the course can be found in the June Newsletter of DAMA Chicago at http://www.damachicago.org/Jun99.htm . The Guidelines can be ordered from DAMA through our Web site, www.dama.org.
Mark your calendars now! Next year's annual DAMA International Spring Symposium is slated for March 20-23, 2000, in Washington, D.C. The theme for the multitrack symposium is "Adventures in Data Management," with topics including data exploration, knowledge management, business intelligence and managing data in application packages. The symposium will be co-hosted and colocated with Wilshire Conferences' annual Meta Data Conference, offering participants the single most authoritative event on the state of art and practice in meta data management. The 2000 symposium will mark the fourth year that DAMA and Wilshire Conferences (formerly TTI) have co-hosted the annual symposium.
