Hot off the presses! Guidelines for Implementing Data Resource Management, compiled by DAMA Chicago and published by DAMA International, is now available. Guidelines is a rich collection of articles and papers penned by experienced, front-line data management practitioners and a cross-section of industry leaders. Twenty-seven chapters cover a full range of topics on developing, assessing and implementing data resource management organizations and functions. Editors Cathy Nolan and Barb Morgan, under the auspices of DAMA Chicago, put together the guidelines to assist professionals grappling with the often daunting task of managing information resources. Together with other dedicated DAMA Chicago members, Barb and Cathy spent the last eight months compiling the guidelines.
The publication supercedes two previous editions entitled, A Model for Data Resource Management Standards, published in 1991 and 1993. Both previous versions also were compiled and edited by DAMA Chicago and published by DAMA International.
The latest edition has articles on current topics such as stewardship, business rules, data quality, change management and data sharing by data industry luminaries such as John Zachman, Larry English, Mike Brackett and Clive Finkelstein.
Also included are practical tips and how-tos on data warehouse data modeling, implementing DRM organizations and processes, data standards and architecture in purchased package environments. Authors Anne Marie Smith, Burton G. Parker, Brett Champlin and Attila Finta discuss mission statements, data management and the Internet, data management process maturity and process modeling.
Judith Newton of the National Institute of Standards and Technology shares her extensive knowledge of data element naming standards. Pat Cupoli provides thoughts on revitalizing data administration.
DAMA members can receive a copy at the discounted price of $50. The cost for non- DAMA members is $100. Order information is available through the DAMA International Web site, www.dama.org.
