I'm pleased to announce Claudia Imhoff as the winner of the 1999 DAMA International Individual Achievement Award. The award was presented to Imhoff at the eleventh annual DAMA International and Meta Data Conference in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Each year the DAMA organization recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the advancement of information resource management as a practical discipline. Imhoff was voted this year's winner by a majority vote of affiliated DAMA chapters.
"In our consulting practice, we support many of the standards and policies that DAMA advocates and develops. Therefore, it is a special honor for me to receive this award and to be included in such a distinguished group of IT professionals as the previous honorees," Imhoff remarked upon receiving the award.
Imhoff's contributions to the information management field include her pioneering work in the practical implementation of data warehousing, operational data stores and the corporate information factory. She has developed basic and advanced courses on data warehouse and operational data store design and construction, data modeling, data architecture and the principles of information engineering.
Her methodologies emphasize sound information management practices that deliver value to the business. Imhoff is well known for her willingness to mentor others in her field and to share her experiences, as evidenced by the papers and templates available at her Web site. She has co-authored two books with Bill Inmon: Building the Operational Data Store and The Corporate Information Factory (John Wiley & Sons). She is a columnist for DM Review and is regularly published in other major periodicals. She is a tireless supporter of DAMA as a guest speaker at chapter meetings and as an advisor to the DAMA International board of directors.
Imhoff obtained her doctorate from the University of Tennessee in Oak Ridge and her undergraduate degree from Duke University. The founder and CEO of Intelligent Solutions, Inc., a data management consulting and training company, she is a widely recognized expert in data warehousing and the information ecosystem, with a strong background in application development, data design, CASE tool usage, facilitation and decision support implementation. She is a nationally and internationally recognized speaker and lecturer.
Imhoff joins previous Individual Achievement Award winners, including luminaries such as John Zachman, Clive Finkelstein, Barbara von Halle, Ron Ross and Larry English.
