Dear Readers,

This year's DM Review 100 features the premier companies that are providing the strategic solutions for business intelligence, analytics and data warehousing. The companies comprising the DM Review 100 are selected by our readers as the result of an exhaustive study conducted by a third-party research organization – The Gantry Group. The methodology for the DM Review 100 selection process is based on three components: quality, customer satisfaction and market share. Each of the companies selected was asked to respond to the following question: What is the greatest challenge confronting your company today, and how are you responding to that challenge?

Not surprisingly, six of the top 10 companies in the 2002 DM Review 100 were in the top 20 for the past five years. IBM claimed the top spot for the second time in the past five years by providing an e-infrastructure that connects applications and databases throughout the enterprise. Oracle, ranked number two, continued to integrate OLAP, data mining and ETL with its latest release of Oracle9i. Microsoft moved up to number three as it continued to focus on the total cost of ownership while continuing to deliver greater value to its customers. At number four, SAS continues to make the evolving needs of its customers its number one priority. HP ascended to number five and, with the acquisition of Compaq, is highly focused on helping their customers with business intelligence and data warehousing. Others in the top 10 include Dell (#6), Teradata, a division of NCR (#7), Sun Microsystems (#8), Informatica (#9) and EMC Corporation (#10).

We at DM Review hope that the responses given by each of this year's DM Review 100 help you in selecting the hardware, software and services to help you reach your goals in the coming year. All of the companies that are represented in the DM Review 100 are quality companies and, depending upon your needs, belong on your short list for evaluation.

Happy holidays and thanks for reading DM Review!
