Dear Readers,

This month I am pleased to introduce two individuals joining DM Review as monthly columnists. Their expertise in data architecture and document warehousing will be a welcome addition to the magazine. Nancy Mullen, who leads Accenture's Data Architecture specialty, will write "Information for Innovation" each month. Our other new column is "Document Warehousing and Content Management" by Dan Sullivan. Dan is chief technology officer of Redmont Corporation, a consulting firm specializing in the development of custom text analysis and business information systems. When reading your favorite columns this month, be sure to include Nancy and Dan.

Michael Schroeck has written an outstanding article on customer analytics for this issue of DM Review. He emphasizes that as companies move into the new client-driven economy, integrated CRM and customer analytics will be vital to their success. Doran Levy's article explains how cost- effective and profitable CRM is linked to an in-depth understanding of each customer's motivations. Database management is becoming more complex, and the skills required for database administration are also increasing. Part 1 of the Modern Database Administration series by Craig Mullins covers the challenges facing DBAs as they implement and manage databases on the Internet.

In addition to highlighting this issue's features, I would like to thank everyone who participated in DM Review's annual readership survey conducted by Market Perspectives. We appreciate your input and sincerely thank you for taking the time to complete the survey. Market Perspectives' thorough analysis of the survey data will identify the strategic initiatives you consider vital to enterprise success. In 2002, we will provide articles and columns that focus on those key technology and business areas.

Everyone who participated in this annual survey was eligible for a special prize drawing. We would like to congratulate Ronald Lam and Susan Sun, the two lucky readers who each received $500 American Express gift certificates.

Also related to our annual readership survey are our 2001 Readership Awards, and we look forward to featuring the recipients of these awards in our October issue. These awards recognize the vendors that you have identified as providing quality products to meet your organizations' technology requirements.

Happy reading!
