Dear Readers,

The August 1993 issue of Data Management Review introduced Ron Powell as the new publisher of the magazine now known as DM Review. In his first publisher's letter, Ron articulated his goal for the magazine: " be the number one magazine for data management professionals in all environments."

Ron has been at the helm of DM Review for more than 10 years, and during those ten years, DM Review has indeed become the number one magazine for business intelligence, analytics and data warehousing – all of which require the management of gigabytes, terabytes and even petabytes of data.

Five years ago, Ron sold DM Review to Faulkner & Gray, which was then acquired by a division of the Thomson Corporation. When Ron sold DM Review, he agreed to remain with the magazine for five years, and those five years have flown by. Ron's tenure as publisher ended with the close of 2003, and a new publisher will be announced soon.

Ron is now enjoying the opportunity to relax and spend time with his family before embarking on his next career adventure. He has asked me to thank all of the readers, authors and advertisers for their support of DM Review throughout the years, and we look forward to your continued involvement. You'll be glad to know that Ron still plans to participate in this industry, either on a consulting basis or in any way that will benefit the industry. He would love to hear from you. You can reach him by e-mail at

Ron, you will be missed, but you've taught us well. The entire staff at DM Review is committed to ensuring that your legacy lives on! I know the readers, authors and advertisers join me and all of us at DM Review in thanking you for a great experience under your leadership. We have all learned and grown as a result of your open door management style, your deep industry knowledge, your entrepreneurial spirit and, of course, your enthusiasm for the benefits attainable through business intelligence and data warehousing.

Throughout the years, Ron appreciated all of the comments and feedback you have provided. That feedback has been and will continue to be invaluable as we shape our editorial content to meet your needs. You can now send any comments or suggestions to me,
