It's all about strategy, isn't it? If it isn't, it should be. Without an overarching strategy that defines corporate objectives as well as the methods to be implemented to reach those goals, many organizations founder - never achieving the full potential envisioned by senior management or the board of directors.
As organizations realize the value of the information assets that have been carefully collected, managed and stored, today's IT departments play an integral role in corporate strategy achievement. Consequently, every CIO needs a well-defined strategy to guide IT's involvement in a multitude of projects tied to strategic corporate goals.
This issue features three articles that will assist in developing a responsive and effective IT department. "Building a Better Mousetrap: The Business-Time Information Architecture" by Jane Griffin of BearingPoint, explains how a business-time information architecture foundation enables organizations to solve their information and analysis problems. Brenda Moncla of ThinkFast Consulting, concludes her three-part series (See Parts 1 and 2 in DM Review's December 2003 and February 2004 issues, respectively) with an explanation of the importance of a consistent and integrated data architecture. Addressing data quality issues from a strategic perspective to effectively leverage Web services is covered by George Marinos of PricewaterhouseCoopers in "Enticing But Dangerous: Assessing Web Services from a Data Quality Perspective."
