The global perimeter intrusion prevention systems market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of about 9% during the forecast period of 2014 to 2019, according to a report from Technavio Research.

Many vendors in the market are developing solutions to meet the specific needs of customers, the firm says. Customized perimeter intrusion prevention offerings include control of access of personnel, maintenance of continuous on-site operations, security policy management, provision of a detailed reporting system, badge management, and maintenance of metal detection systems and scanner options.

The adoption of perimeter intrusion prevention systems is high in cases of critical infrastructure, such as oil and gas industries, manufacturing industries, water treatment plants, and nuclear plants.

“Vendors in the market are offering cloud-based surveillance services or video surveillance as a service (VSaaS),” Faisal Ghaus, vice president of Technavio Research. “These services provide advantages such as pay-per-use, low initial investment and maintenance, and easy deployment.”

VSaaS is currently in high demand among companies of all sizes as well as the governments of many countries, Ghaus says. The VSaaS model also includes services such as on-site and off-site storage, remote video monitoring, cloud-based video content analytics and real-time monitoring through the Internet, boosting the growth of the market, he says.
