Solace Systems and Layer 7 Technologies said they were combining their messaging and security technologies to create safe high-volume communication of market information in Web services and cloud computing.

Solace said it would integrated its message routers with with Layer 7's SecureSpan Gateways. The combination would allow secure communication that can grow with demand and market volume, the companies said.

The Layer 7 SecureSpan XML Gateway regulates access to services, enforces policies and protects against malicious attacks. Companies using Solace’s messaging appliances can create “virtual enterprise service buses” to manage their activities.

"Our combined solutions make the management of XML-based web services, security and content networking much easier and faster to roll out than software running on servers," said Shawn McAllister, CTO at Solace.

Financial firms using wide area networks and data centers or services “in the cloud” are increasingly sensitive to delays in transmission and communication, the companies said. The combination of messaging routers and secure gateways allows firms to exchange real-time data across organizations and clouds.

The approach allows for “elastic” web services, said Dimitri Sirota, VP alliances and marketing at Layer 7 Technologies.

Solace’s customers, in previous engagements, include Barclays Capital, Liquidnet and Two Sigma Investments.
