Expand Beyond Corporation, a leader in real-time mobile business software, announced it has been granted a patent on a mechanism for securing data sent and received by mobile devices. This marks the second major patent award recently announced by Expand Beyond, adding to their growing portfolio of broad mobile software patents.

The recently granted patent, U.S. Patent No. 6,711,678, describes a method for securing devices within a computer network that includes mobile devices. One of the critical innovations covered by the patent is the ability to dramatically reduce the computing resources - memory, CPU cycles and bandwidth - required by complex security algorithms. This is achieved by adapting traditional security protocols such as SSH and SSL to work in modern, so-called "n-tier" architectures.

This patent award adds to a growing portfolio of intellectual property that Expand Beyond has been accruing since it founded the mobile system administration industry in 2000 with the release of its flagship product, PocketDBA. Just last month, Expand Beyond announced that it had been granted a far-reaching patent covering all mobile control of computer systems and applications.
