Equinix said it struck a "strategic partnership agreement" in order to set up co-location services in an emerging financial capital in China.

The provider of data center services around the world said the partnership is with Shanghai Data Solution Co. Ltd. The systems integrator will work with Equinix to provide "a similar level of availability and reliability of co-location services in China" in an SDS data center, as is provided by Equinix' 49 International Business Exchanges elsewhere.

The SDS data center is in Pudong, a new economic development area of Shanghai, where the Lujiazu Finance and Trade Zone, the Shanghai World Financial Center and the Shanghai Stock Exchange are located.

Up until now, Equinix operated data centers in Hong Kong and Singapore, to serve Asian customers.

Equinix said it "performed multiple engineering audits and established that the center meets the company's stringent availability requirements and facility standards to deliver colocation services."

Equinix did not disclose how much computing capacity would be reserved for its customers in the SDS data center in Shanghaii.

Equinix will provide an operations support team to SDS and open a support office in Shanghai by the end of June.
