Vertica Systems today announced it has hired enterprise software and database technology veteran Ralph Breslauer as CEO. Breslauer brings more than 20 years of successful business development and software sales growth experience to Vertica's strong leadership team.

As CEO, Breslauer will help drive Vertica's growth, research and development, sales, customer adoption and strategic partnerships to ensure companies of every size can capitalize on the substantial benefits of column-oriented databases. He will work with co-founders Mike Stonebraker and Andy Palmer as well as chairman of the board Jerry Held to continue Vertica's development as a leader in the market for relational database management systems (RDBMS) for query-intensive applications. Former CEO, Palmer will continue to play an active role in the company's growth initiatives and sales and marketing strategies as well as remain a member of the board of directors.
