May 11, 2012 – EMC Corporation announced a new move in the flash storage architecture market with the acquisition of XtremIO.
XtremIO relies on an all-flash enterprise storage architecture for its line of storage arrays and operational management solutions. EMC intends to aim XtremIO’s offerings at performance enhancements to hard disk drives when flash technology is used in the server on a PCIe card, a computer expansion bus standard typically involved in replacing older bus standards. With the acquisition, EMC also introduced its “Project Thunder,” an initiative to optimize high frequency, low latency read/write workloads.
