Netezza Corporation announced that Ed Zander, president and chief operating officer of Sun Microsystems has joined its Board of Directors. Netezza, a privately held company, has created a purpose-built, integrated business intelligence platform that transforms slow and expensive business intelligence activities into agile information. Netezza enables tera-scale queries in a fraction of the time of existing solutions, delivering fast and affordable BI to Fortune 1000 companies.

"Ed is one of the most respected executives in the computing industry and brings a wealth of experience to Netezza," said Jit Saxena, cofounder and CEO of Netezza. "He brings a unique set of skills and expertise acquired during more than 25 years in the computer business and will help Netezza seize a large market opportunity for purpose-built business intelligence platforms."

Joining the team, Zander said, "I'm looking forward to helping Jit and his team capitalize on a growing need for real-time information and build a market-leading organization."

In March, Netezza announced that it completed a round of financing from top-tier venture capitalist firms totaling $20 million, bringing the Company's total funding to more than $28 million. Netezza has created a purpose-built platform that runs ad hoc and complex tera-scale queries in a fraction of the time of existing solutions, delivering fast and affordable BI to Fortune 1000 companies.
