The U.S. Department of Labor, in line with the federal government’s Cloud-First Strategy, is leading efforts to use cloud services for enterprise case and content management services.

To support the department in this effort, management and IT consulting firm Washington Consulting, a subsidiary of Alion Science and Technology, will work with prime contractor CGI Federal to deliver an enterprise case and content management solution on a cloud-based platform.

As a primary subcontractor to CGI on the project, Washington Consulting will lead the case and content system integration efforts using EMC's Documentum xCP platform to enable the Department of Labor to automate paper-intensive processes including case management, document management, records management, workflow management and business intelligence.

The cloud-based solution will be scalable, promote reusable components and include a business process management component to address workflow and reporting needs, according to Washington Consulting. The initial deployment, known as the Federal Contract Compliance System, will address the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs’ need to update its existing system and modernize process capabilities and reporting.

“The cloud approach provides a lower cost of ownership and eliminates the need for on-site technical infrastructure,” Marty Brennan, president of Washington Consulting, said in a statement. “By improving Department of Labor’s operational and mission-specific processes, the information sharing within the department and with other organizations will be greatly enhanced.”
