Is Dell planning a new bid for 3Par to top HP’s offer of $1.6 billion? Citing unnamed sources, a number of news organizations including Reuters say that within a few days Dell will bolster its offer for the data storage company to surpass what HP has on the table.
Meanwhile, 3Par and HP have begun acquisition talks with 3Par opening its books to its potential acquirer and 3Par reviewing the HP bid. Should a deal be reached, 3Par will officially inform the Texas-based computer maker that its offer has been topped; Dell would then have three days to counter.
3Par’s data storage and management tools have increased in demand as enterprises embrace cloud computing, a market in which both Dell and HP are seeking to position themselves as leaders. Both vendors have deep pockets. HP boasts $15 billion in cash and cash equivalents, Dell $11 billion.
