Dell SecureWorks, a security service unit of Dell Inc., introduced this week a vulnerability management service and a web application scanning service for the cloud. These add-on cloud security services are available for purchase by customers of Dell Public Cloud, Dell Cloud Dedicated Service and customers of VMware vCenter 5.0 environments, Dell SecureWorks says.

In addition to the scanning services, Dell SecureWorks also began offering cloud customers its Global Threat Intelligence Service, which offers expert analysis of millions of security data points related to new vulnerabilities, emerging threats and new adversary activity.

Through the VMS service, Dell SecureWorks security personnel will conduct regularly scheduled or “on demand” vulnerability scans of a customer’s cloud services and applications.

The WAS offering focuses on an organization’s cloud-based Web applications. It will provide regularly scheduled and “on demand” vulnerability scans of a customer’s Web applications.

The VMS and WAS services are automatically updated to scan for new vulnerabilities, so the latest cyber threats are detected. The services have been designed specifically for cloud environments.

“Dell and Dell SecureWorks are committed to ensuring organizations’ cloud-based IT assets are safe and secure,” Mark Wood, product manager for Dell SecureWorks Cloud Security Services, said in a statement. “We are helping to provide customers with a secure experience while capitalizing on the key benefits the cloud can bring to their organization.”
