Dell and SUSE Join Forces for Private Cloud Solution
April 17, 2013 - Open source software provider SUSE announced the availability of an enterprise private cloud infrastructure solution that combines Dell hardware and services with SUSE software.
The Dell SUSE Cloud Solution, Powered by OpenStack is designed to help organizations rapidly deploy and easily manage open source private clouds. It’s backed by the support of the Dell and SUSE worldwide support organizations.
The joint offering uses SUSE Cloud as its cloud management platform, which is packaged for enterprise environments and integrated with SUSE maintenance and lifecycle management processes. Integration between OpenStack and Crowbar, an open-source project initiated by Dell, simplifies deployment, management and administration of physical cloud infrastructure, SUSE says.
With the Dell SUSE Cloud Solution, Powered by OpenStack, companies can build a scalable cloud foundation that is designed to handle massive compute loads while maintaining the ability to customize their cloud environment, SUSE says.
"The ease with which we can deploy and manage cloud-based workloads using SUSE Cloud has allowed us to rapidly expand the cloud services we offer," Frans Labuschagne, senior manager, Open Systems Support Services in the Data Center Services Division of BCX, said in a statement. "SUSE Cloud simplifies our installation processes, enabling us to set up clouds in our data center quickly and reduces the tasks needed to add capacity as we continue our growth."
"SUSE and Dell are both deeply committed to the OpenStack foundation, and we share the goal of creating an easy-to-deploy and manage cloud infrastructure for the enterprise," Michael Miller, vice president of global alliances and marketing at SUSE, said in a statement.
