Dell has introduced an update to its Boomi cloud integration platform that adds new capabilities for middleware connectivity, large-scale data transfer, and integration monitoring.

Dell said the update, called AtomSphere Spring 11, will help enterprises leverage existing IT investments, by easing the complexity of integrating enterprise IT environments with new and emerging cloud offerings.

“Enterprises are looking to quickly take advantage of the flexibility, innovation and efficiency of the cloud without sacrificing the investments they’ve already made in on-premise applications and middleware,” Rick Nucci, chief technology officer of Dell Boomi, said in a statement. “The new features in AtomSphere Spring 11 were designed with mid- to large-size businesses in mind to simplify their path to the cloud.”

The Dell Boomi integration platform is delivered as-a-service, so customers are not required to install or maintain the software. The AtomSphere update includes the following features:

  • Legacy Middleware Cloud Gateway. A Java-based connector plugs into existing middleware platforms such as MQ Series, Tibco, Progress Software and webMethods. The gateway allows enterprises to audit and govern the movement of data, enforce security, and connectivity to more than 70 SaaS applications.
  • Large Data Processing Support. Dell says with parallel processing capability, terabyte-sized files are now supported.
  • Salesforce.com Integration. A new API simplifies the integration of enterprise applications with offerings from Salesforce.com.
  • Change data capture. The technology is able to reduce the size of data sets transferred between applications and cloud environments by focusing only on changed data.
