BACKGROUND: iJET International is an intelligence-driven provider of business resiliency and risk management solutions to nearly 500 multinational corporations and governments – helping them survive and thrive amidst global threats to their people, facilities and supply chain assets. iJET’s services, intelligence analysts and patented Worldcue Global Control Center technology solutions equip decision-makers and organizations with real-time information to anticipate, respond to and emerge from business disruptions with a competitive edge. iJET’s Worldcue solutions provide decision-makers with timely, actionable intelligence on potential disruptions and emerging threats to employees, operating assets and suppliers.

PROBLEM SOLVED: iJET tracks more than 9 million client trips each year and receives information on these trips from thousands of different sources, such as travelers, travel systems and travel agencies.

One way we differentiate ourselves from our competitors is our traveler-centric model. It’s extremely important for our data to be accurate because one of our products, Worldcue Traveler, allows travelers to log in and view their current and recent trips. Travelers, corporate travel managers and corporate security managers use this information for employee tracking, tax records, planning, etc. The primary issue we faced was the duplication of records. We needed a solution that could help us deduplicate our data and compile information into one reliable record.

PRODUCT FUNCTIONALITY: Using DataFlux, we are able to identify duplicate records and compile information into one master record. It is common, for example, to receive trip information from a corporate credit card that does not have a hotel listed and separate information from a travel agency with the hotel record included. Before DataFlux, up to 10 percent of our records were duplicates. If a client needed to know how many travelers were in London on a given day, for example, the number could have been off by 10 percent because a traveler record might appear more than once. Today, less than one percent of our travel data contain duplicate records. DataFlux technology allowed us to merge multiple records into one. In fact, DataFlux has enabled us to correct any issue long before a client sees it.

STRENGTHS: The product’s ability to take information from various sources and create one master record is incredible. Our internal data team now has a capability they’ve never had before. In the past, making changes was a time-consuming process. That runway has been shortened considerably with DataFlux. Since DataFlux technology is offered as a Web service, we were able to move to the next generation of data quality quickly. The implementation took only three days, and we saw quantifiable improvements within a few short months.

WEAKNESSES: The old user interface felt a bit outdated, but that issue is being resolved in the new platform that we beta tested.

SELECTION CRITERIA: Our selection process was very long because we spread the process across three summers. We first focused on who was in the market. We then narrowed that down to DataFlux and two competitors and evaluated each of those companies based on features, functionality and cost. We found that DataFlux has the best combination of all three criteria.

DELIVERABLES: As discussed above, DataFlux has helped us resolve duplicate records within our travel data. After making a decision to use DataFlux, we were able to implement the solution very quickly. Within a few months, we were already decreasing errors by several percentage points.


VENDOR SUPPORT: Though we are not a large organization, DataFlux has never treated us like a small company. It may sound cliché, but our relationship with DataFlux is more of a partnership than the traditional user-vendor relationship. The overall support DataFlux has provided has been incredible, and it’s been a very positive experience since day one. When we purchased the product, a DataFlux consultant came on site for three days; we were up and running within that time. Having a knowledgeable expert train us and actually have us using the tools to do real work on our data within a few days surpassed our expectations. The public training courses have been very beneficial as well.

DOCUMENTATION: The documentation is fair and standard for the industry.
