Data security and automation top the list of planned investments
Data security and automation are the top two planned IT projects for 2020, while artificial intelligence (AI) projects didn’t make the list’s top 10, according to a recent survey by security and governance software provider Netwrix.
The company in October 2019 surveyed 1,045 IT professionals worldwide about the projects they are planning for the upcoming year.
The survey found no dramatic difference in IT priorities among organizations based on size or industry. About three quarters of the organizations (74 percent) named data security as their top IT priority for 2020, while 54 percent plan to focus on automating manual tasks.
Other key findings: 43 percent of organizations ranked data privacy among their top five priorities; and 33 percent intend to focus on digital transformation, integrating their existing technologies and performing cloud migrations.
Interestingly, only 20 percent of organizations plan to focus on addressing the IT skills shortage, either through education of existing IT personnel or talent acquisition. And while AI was included in a pre-defined list of choices of priorities, it didn’t make it into top IT trends selected. Only 14 percent of large organizations (10,000 to 50,000 employees) plan to deploy AI-based products in 2020.
