December 12, 2011 – Data management software provider ASG Software Solutions announced Monday it had reached a deal to acquire data protection and backup management software firm Atempo. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Atempo, a privately held firm, provides software for email and media archiving, storage system performance management, and for backup and recovery of disparate servers, data centers and work stations. The vendor is based in Palo Alto, Calif., with 13 offices worldwide and more than 4,500 customers in industries such as manufacturing, media, health care, telecommunications, government and higher education.
In a news release, ASG stated that Atempo’s solutions enhance its product stack for information automation and risk reduction throughout the IT lifecycle. Arthur Allen, ASG president and CEO, said in a news release on the deal that Atempo’s offerings are expected to enhance ASG’s efforts with two big trends in data management: dealing with large data volumes, and navigating complex e-discovery and compliance regulations.
"Atempo's flexibility is a perfect match for enhancing several of our areas of expertise, including our cloud orchestration, information management and infrastructure management solutions," Allen said.
ASG, or Allen Systems Group, provides software solutions for metadata management, performance management and information management. It has more than 3,000 corporate data management customers and is one of the largest privately held software companies in the world, according to an assessment by independent research firm Ovum. The acquisition of Atempo was the second recent deal for ASG, which purchased Illinois-based e-discovery and data management provider RiverGlass in October.
