IBM announced the first e-business on demand applications for medium business customers, delivering accounting, human resource and customer relationship management applications over the Internet for a usage-based charge.

The applications from industry-leading software providers will be hosted by IBM Global Services and enable a customer, for example, to acquire accounting functions for as little as $50 per-user per-month. The customer then receives a single monthly or quarterly bill from the software company. This lower, variable price structure significantly reduces the costs for these critical business functions, freeing customers to focus on running their business while IBM and its business partners manage their computing systems.

Medium-size businesses, generally defined as companies with between 100 and 1,000 employees, represent one of the largest and fastest growing segments of the information technology (IT) marketplace. According to AMI Partners, these companies will spend more than $150 billion on IT in the next three years. Medium-size companies require easy-to-deploy solutions that give their businesses a competitive edge and an immediate return in today's tight economy. The on-demand applications announced today can significantly reduce costs while allowing customers to access software that allows them to respond quickly to changing market conditions.

The applications announced will be hosted at IBM's state-of-the art data centers and accessible through a Web browser and are from Hrsmart, Intacct, Onyx and Employease. </
