Crystal Decisions announced a new multi-year agreement with IBM focused on meeting customer needs in the small and medium business (SMB) space. Through this agreement, Crystal Decisions and IBM will develop new joint offerings, expand existing sales channels and explore services opportunities together – providing customers with solutions to improve business performance and drive profitability. The agreement is sponsored by IBM eServer with support from IBM SMB, software and services brands.

Crystal Decisions and IBM have worked together to deliver Crystal Enterprise on the AIX 5L UNIX platform, the DB2 Universal Database and the Crystal Enterprise Java SDK for WebSphere Application Server. IBM contributed significantly to this initiative by providing hardware and software expertise to the Crystal Decisions development team.

"Based on IDC's server workload research, we've seen an increase in IBM's share of the UNIX market for decision support by 6 percent in revenue and 4 percent in shipments from 1999 to 2001 – suggesting a continued positive trend in customer adoption," said Matthew Eastwood, Research Director, IDC. "Crystal Enterprise on AIX will expand the joint opportunities between Crystal Decisions and IBM to meet the increasing demand for Business Intelligence (BI) solutions on IBM's UNIX platform. Both companies are providing the right ingredients to better deliver value for medium and large sized enterprises."

Crystal Decisions now also offers a comprehensive BI solution supporting the WebSphere product suite. With the Java SDK, corporate developers can now incorporate enterprise reporting capabilities into their Java applications. IBM and Crystal Decisions have also strengthened the overall BI capabilities across WebSphere Portal and WebSphere Commerce solutions: Crystal Decisions offers Portlets for the new release of WebSphere Portal 4.1, and a jointly developed integration package for WebSphere Commerce containing over 150 reports.
