PROBLEM SOLVED: We needed to find a way to deliver data faster to the market for our business partners. Different partners and business units wanted to track certain subscribers, and the information needed for tracking was found in two different environments. Trying to obtain the correct data and distribute this to our customers in a timely manner was proving to be extremely difficult. With required data from on-premises SAP as well as cloud-based, reporting and analysis was a challenge. Using the Composite Data Virtualization Platform, we built a virtual data layer as the unified source for insight. This gave us the ability to flexibly integrate cloud and on-premises data as required. Before, time to market took anywhere from three to six months. With the Composite Information Server, market delivery has been cut in half.

PRODUCT FUNCTIONALITY: With Composite Software’s Data Virtualization Platform we are able to overcome data complexity and disparate silos to provide the business with the timely information it needs to meet today’s ever-changing business requirements. The data virtualization and federation capabilities allow us to abstract data from multiple, different sources in many locations to produce a single view for our customers. While providing a common data publication and delivery mechanism, this layer hides data complexity from our reporting and other data-consuming applications via a consistent, shared set of abstracted data services. This technology results in faster and easier new application development and significantly lower data management costs. It is helping us to meet our growth objectives. Composite allows us to have much quicker development and implementation times while having the flexibility to allow for quick prototyping.

STRENGTHS: The biggest strength we found from the Composite Information Server was that our time to market was cut in half. With up to 50 percent reduction in development cycles we were saved from having to build large data marts. We can easily virtualize our data instead of physically substantiating it. The Data Virtualization Layer simplifies data integration, thereby making our team more responsive and productive in meeting requests as they come in. Composite’s data virtualization enables us to make modifications within the system without affecting our end users’ experience. For example, making new attributions to a row or column can be done seamlessly, allowing us to be much more agile.

WEAKNESSES: We would really love to see access or links to the Cognos cubes component. Because we have a lot of demand for multiple cubes in different areas, it would be beneficial if Composite could leverage this accessibility as well.

SELECTION CRITERIA: Our solution architects did thorough research on data virtualization. We then made comparisons between ETL to extract data, database links with Oracle sources, and Composite Software’s Composite Information Server for its data virtualization capabilities. We ran a proof of concept for nine different use cases and enthusiastically decided on Composite.

DELIVERABLES: The biggest benefit of using Composite is the reduction in time to market up to 50 percent. The ability to provide a single data access point, versus many, to any tool is proving to be invaluable to our development cycles. With our increased agility, we have been able to improve the business performance by responding faster to new and rapidly changing information demands. We can now provide the information required to increase revenue and improve productivity. The ease of use of the Composite Information Server will allow us to propel from dozens of users to hundreds very smoothly. Developers have quickly adapted to the tools and uses of the Composite Information Server, allowing them to access data faster and more easily and consistently. We are very happy with our results of Composite Software thus far.

VENDOR SUPPORT: Composite’s support team is excellent, and we have been very pleased with the response and support we’ve received. Any question or complication we have encountered has been answered or taken care of in one hour or less.

DOCUMENTATION: The documentation is complete and easy to understand and enables us to utilize the software without assistance.
