Colin White, a world renowned consultant and analyst with more than 33 years of enterprise IT experience, has announced the formation of BI Research, a research, education and consulting company specializing in helping companies understand and benefit from evolving and leading-edge technologies in the areas of business intelligence and business integration.

White is recognized industry-wide for his in-depth knowledge of leading-edge business intelligence and enterprise business integration technologies, and how they can be integrated into an IT infrastructure for building and supporting the Smart Business. He has helped hundreds of companies throughout the world exploit modern information technologies to optimize and improve the efficiency of their business operations.

BI Research will provide a wide-range of research and consulting services to both the IT end-user and vendor communities. It has consulted for Global 2000 companies, IT vendors, venture capitalists, other consulting firms, educational establishments, and government departments. The company delivers educational conferences and seminars in the U.S. and Europe, and via the Internet. It also publishes regular articles and columns in a variety of leading industry publications.

In addition to his consulting practices, White is a frequent speaker at leading IT events. He is currently conference chair for DCI’s Portals, Content Management and Collaboration conference, and is on the advisory board for The Data Warehouse Institute’s Business Intelligence Summit. Colin has co- authored several books and has written numerous articles on business intelligence, enterprise portals, database and Web technology for leading IT trade journals. He writes a regular column for DM Review,/i> Magazine entitled “Building the Smart Business.” Prior to becoming an analyst and consultant he worked for IBM and Amdahl.

“Business intelligence and data warehousing systems have evolved to where they are now so essential to business success that many companies cannot manage their business effectively with them,” White said. “These systems are no longer standalone and separate from operational processing — they are becoming more and more integrated into the overall business process. This integration allows business intelligence to be used, not only for strategic and tactical planning, but also for actively driving day-to-day business operations and decisions.

“To support operational decision making,” White added, “the business intelligence system must provide easy-to-use and self-service enterprise analytical applications that enable real-time decision making. The charter of BI Research is to provide organizations an unbiased assessment of the myriad of available technologies available in the marketplace today.”

White’s former company, Intelligent Business Strategies, will now be headquartered in Wilmslow, England, and operated by Mike Ferguson. Ferguson has been the Managing Director of Intelligent Business Strategies Ltd. in the United Kingdom since its inception in 2002. BI Research will continue to work closely with Intelligent Business Strategies internationally in the areas of business intelligence and enterprise business integration.
