Cognos announced its continued support for IBM DB2 Universal Database by including support for IBM's new DB2 Cube Views.

,p>Cognos' business intelligence solutions – built upon the crucial database infrastructure layer provided by IBM DB2 – offer the benefit of flexible, intuitive data access tools integrated with an efficient, automated data management process. A typical Cognos-DB2 solution includes components from Cognos Enterprise BI Series 7, which brings together a broad range of BI capabilities including managed reporting, analysis, ad hoc query, scorecarding, visualization, ETL and event detection. As part of this integration, Cognos Enterprise BI Series 7 will now include an automated meta data bridge that will automatically generate a Cognos BI meta data model from a DB2 multidimensional model. In addition, during extensive testing in IBM's labs, Cognos' Analytic Applications saw a 90 percent performance increase for some business queries. In April, Cognos and IBM announced a multiyear global agreement to market comprehensive business intelligence offerings. Under the terms of the agreement, IBM and Cognos will jointly market and sell integrated solutions to numerous verticals and lines of business such as sales, marketing, and human resources. The IBM and Cognos offering makes use of IBM DB2 Universal Database, DB2 Warehouse Manager, DB2 OLAP Server, IBM WebSphere Internet infrastructure software and IBM WebSphere Portal software and is available on IBM eServer pSeries and xSeries systems.
