Burlington, Mass., July 27, 1999 - Cognos announced Cognos DataMerchant 3.0, a software solution for information commerce. Information vendors can realize the benefits of e-commerce by leveraging DataMerchant to create and manage a Web-based storefront where customers can securely query and purchase relational data online. For consumers purchasing relational data, DataMerchant now provides the option of receiving data tagged with XML. This is particularly useful for the transparent integration of data across disparate data sources.

DataMerchant allows organizations to sell valuable corporate information assets by attaching a dollar amount to them. Enhancements to DataMerchant broaden the range of information products that vendors can offer for sale and the formats in which purchasers take delivery. In addition, DataMerchant 3.0 allows data vendors to sell access to Web-based applications such as Cognos PowerPlay Enterprise Server or Impromptu Web Query.

DataMerchant 3.0 for Windows NT is available in early August at $65,000 per server. DataMerchant supports Oracle, Sybase and Microsoft SQL Server and most other popular databases through ODBC. For more information, refer to the Cognos Web site at www.cognos.com.
