Cognos, a world leader in business intelligence (BI) and corporate performance management (CPM), announced it has acquired privately held Softa, a leading U.K.-based performance management consulting company. With this acquisition, Cognos strengthens its CPM leadership and customer service in Europe. The acquisition closed during Cognos' fourth quarter ending February 29.
"Our goal is to be the CPM business partner of choice for our current and prospective customers in Europe and around the world," said Rob Ashe, Cognos president and chief operating officer. "The acquisition of Softa enhances our CPM solution with proven expertise in helping companies link strategy to execution across the enterprise. Most importantly, it enhances our ability to address the strategic performance management requirements of our clients."
Softa is based in Oxford, England, and specializes in strategy formulation and KPI measurement consulting. The company has created a unique methodology, called "LivingStrategy," to help customers accelerate the development and implementation of their CPM solutions.
"Gartner includes strategy formulation and its supporting methodologies as a central element of CPM," said Lee Geishecker, vice president and research area lead at Gartner. "A comprehensive CPM solution needs to begin with the definition of the strategy and the metrics. Determining the key components of their strategy is a major challenge for many organizations today."
