The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on Nov. 19 announced formation of the Office of Enterprise Data and Analytics (OEDA). Niall Brennan, previously acting director of the CMS Offices of Enterprise Management, will lead OEDA and serve as the first CMS chief data officer.

OEDA is tasked with overseeing improvements in data collection and dissemination as CMS seeks to become more transparent. The agency has had difficulty with the veracity and usefulness of data it presently is making available, such as on the Hospital Compare website, among others.
