BACKGROUND: Boca Raton, Florida-based Runner Technologies specializes in Oracle-based technology solutions for address verification and Web-based applications. Our centers of excellence encompass data quality software, survey management, customer relationship management sales systems, human resources performance management and development tools. Runner Technologies has made a strong commitment to the higher education market, specializing in address verification and online course evaluation solutions integrated in the student systems at institutions across the U.S. and Canada. Our CLEAN_Address product integrates with higher education systems such as Banner and PeopleSoft to provide truly seamless real-time and batch address verification.

HARDWARE PLATFORMS: Runner Technologies makes use of all of the platforms that Melissa Data supports: Windows, Linux, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX.

PROBLEM SOLVED: Runner Technologies required a flexible and solid address verification engine to support its CLEAN_Address product suite. CLEAN_Address supports the Oracle market, which is very diverse in the operating systems that run the Oracle database. Runner Technologies' requirements include support for U.S. and Canada postal data sets, on all of the industry-standard operating systems that the Oracle database runs on. Melissa Data - a provider of  solutions for data hygiene - offers the Address Object, which solves this need without a hitch. Address Object is a developer tool that allows users to verify addresses in either the point of entry or in batch mode. The tool enables users to build lookup and verification capabilities in custom applications to validate, correct and standardize addresses to U.S. Postal Service specifications. Address Object is one component in Melissa's Data Quality Tools suite and is available for Windows, Linux and Solaris-based systems.

PRODUCT FUNCTIONALITY: The Address Object engine from Melissa Data is extremely solid, flexible and easy to work with. We are able to take advantage of every feature in Address Object by exposing the same functionality through our Oracle CLEAN_Address interface.

STRENGTHS: We are very impressed with the enhancements Melissa Data has provided for supporting all of the industry-leading operating systems, including the latest AIX and HP-UX release. This gives us great flexibility when we are talking with our Oracle-based customers, who require these various platforms.

WEAKNESSES: The one operating system platform yet to be released for Address Object is Mac OS. With the continuing growth of the Macintosh market and because the Mac OS is based on the BSD UNIX kernel, we would see this as a future need. The Oracle database and tools support the Mac OS.

SELECTION CRITERIA: We selected Address Object because of its ease of integration, very thorough documentation and excellent technical support. We like the fact that we talk to a consistent set of people for support issues and they respond very quickly.

DELIVERABLES: Our CLEAN_Address product makes use of all of the features of Address Object. With the architecture that CLEAN_Address provides on top of Address Object, we have created an enterprise service-oriented architecture to support scalability, redundancy and 100 percent availability of the address verification features for our Oracle customers.

VENDOR SUPPORT: We've had an excellent relationship with Melissa Data, with very prompt and personal responses to our support inquiries.

DOCUMENTATION: The documentation covers all of the features and is very well written and easy to understand. The sample code provides a quick way to get started on almost any development environment.
