April 12, 2012 – Citrix Systems announced it has made a deal for Podio, an on-demand work collaboration platform startup.
Podio offers an eponymous collaborative work platform in the cloud that connects with in-house business systems and mobile apps. Platform features include social networking elements like real-time status updates that include links, sharing, comments and feedback.
Citrix stated that Podio would be integrated into its GoTo cloud services portfolio, which includes GoToMeeting. Citrix Online Services Division SVP and GM Brett Caine said in a release on the deal that Podio’s collaboration technology is a “natural fit” with the Citrix portfolio and a move toward what he called the “post-PC era.”
Podio is based on Copenhagen and has approximately two-dozen employees, which Caine indicated would join the Citrix team. Podio was founded in 2009 but first launched publicly last year, and has a primarily European customer set, including Alcatel-Lucent.
Financial details were not disclosed, though Citrix stated it would provide further information on its plans for Podio at its Synergy San Francisco event in May.
In October, Citrix announced the acquisition of cloud storage provider ShareFile with the intention of boosting its data collaboration and personal cloud strategy.
