The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives has launched a certification program for CIOs. 
Ann Arbor, Mich.-based CHIME, which has 1,300 CIO members, developed the program with Castle Worldwide Inc., a Morrisville, N.C.-based certification testing company. The Certified Healthcare CIO program’s written exam is based on a volunteer effort to identify 13 core tasks of CIOs and then design questions based on those tasks.
The first testing date will be Oct. 27 at the CHIME Fall CIO Forum in Indian Wells, Calif. In addition to passing the written exam, other qualifications for certification include: three years of service as a CIO, participation in education activities to earn continuing education units, membership in CHIME, and commitment to upholding CHIME’s professional standards of conduct.
