The lack of robust, effective, enterprise-wide data and media centers of excellence (D&M COEs) in Global 2000 organizations has resulted in the current preponderance of fragmented, platform-specific solutions that impede time to market, diminish availability, increase costs and ultimately limit the business's ability to grow its information lifeblood according to a report issued by the META Group. This growing conflict between organic business information growth and immature management processes and automation will drive users toward the enterprise efficiencies of the D&M COE. Moreover, as users develop the COE structure, they must closely align the D&M and asset COEs to ensure conformity, standardization and optimal exploitation of the rapidly growing storage infrastructure. Specifically, META believes asset management by granular, aged costing will yield a leaner, more efficient storage budget and enable more affordable capacity growth.
