At its January 2004 board meeting, the DAMA International (DAMA-I) board decided to adopt the DAMA professional certified data management professional (CDMP) certification as a strategy for moving data management toward maturity. It is anticipated that this program will be launched this spring.

The CDMP credential will be earned via a test-based certification program using the new DAMA/ICCP (Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals) data-oriented exams (data management, database administration and data warehousing) along with other ICCP exams within the ICCP certification framework. The ICCP offers internationally recognized product- and vendor-neutral certification programs for the computing profession.

This credential will be offered at the Practitioner or Mastery level. Candidates will take a total of three exams for certification: the IT core, a data-oriented exam and a third exam of the candidate's choice based on the candidate's work experience. Candidates will have the opportunity to take these exams at the DAMA International Symposium/Wilshire Meta-Data Conference, May 2004, in Los Angeles. A review course for these exams will also be available at this conference.

If you already passed one or more ICCP exams, these exams can be used toward a CDMP if they are considered current by ICCP standards. For information on your status, contact the ICCP.

Example Education and Work Experience Qualifications - CDMP

The CDMP Practitioner certification will be awarded to professionals who scored at a 50 percent or better rate on all three exams and have two years of work experience, of which as many as two years of a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in an appropriate discipline can be substituted.

The CDMP Mastery certification is awarded to professionals who scored at a rate of 70 percent or better on all three exams and have 4+ years of work experience, of which as many as two years of a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in an appropriate discipline can be substituted.

The ICCP will issue Expert Certificates if you pass one specialty exam at a rate of 70 percent or better.

Exams may be retaken to improve your score and advance from the Practitioner to the Mastery certificate level. You may receive credit of one specialty exam for select vendor certifications.
