Vancouver City Savings Credit Union Selects Initiate Systems


Vancouver City Savings Credit Union, known as Vancity, selected the Initiate Master Data Service software to deliver a single, accurate, comprehensive view of its membership across all its lines of business.


Vancity will deploy three of Initiate’s targeted software solutions and capabilities from the Initiate Master Data ServiceT platform to help execute regulatory compliance programs, support marketing initiatives and enhance the quality of their members’ service experience.

“With Initiate Master Data Service software, we expect to accurately identify Vancity members in a timely fashion and also are confident about the integrity of the data,” said Tom Haksi, CIO of Vancity. “The data and the inter-relationships of that information remain consistent between systems and across our credit union’s business lines and product offerings. We will unlock the value of our data assets.”


Navy Exchange Service Command Selects Netezza


The Navy Exchange Service Command, (NEXCOM), selected the Netezza data warehouse appliance as its enterprise data warehouse (EDW).


The Netezza EDW analyzes data from NEXCOM's global network of 305 stores and 1,200 service operations located on 104 naval installations. NEXCOM is a world-wide $2.5 billion chain of retail stores and hotels that offer a variety of services for active-duty sailors, reservists, retirees and their family members.


"We needed a high-performance EDW infrastructure that could scale as the number of users and data volumes increased to maintain the quality of our services and support," said Kean Westcott, senior vice president, chief information officer at NEXCOM. "As a retailer, NEXCOM needs the ability to make sound decisions around initiatives such as customer relationship management and supply chain management."


Welch's Expands Use of Oco's Business Intelligence Solution


Welch's, a leading food and consumer packaged goods company, extended its use of Oco Inc.'s solution.


The solution's new reporting functionality addresses two key areas - it opens up the solution to Welch's transportation carriers for increased collaboration, and it now provides Welch's with detailed analysis of fuel costs, which is an escalating component of Welch's transportation costs.


"After evaluating other BI products we selected Oco because we wanted a proven solution that will drive a rapid return and can be deployed within weeks," said Bill Coyne, director of purchasing and logistics for Welch's. "We are gaining greater visibility into cost-savings opportunities, which is especially important in light of rising fuel and transportation costs. Additionally, by extending Oco's reporting to our carriers, we are sharing on-time delivery metrics to drive improved customer satisfaction. Oco's intuitive user interface will allow our carriers to easily adopt the system; within our company, we say that it is as easy to use as Google."


California Department of Public Health Deploys Netrics


The California Department of Public Health, Genetics Disease Screening Program (GDSP) deployed Netrics Matching Platform to provide automated data matching capabilities for its prenatal diagnostic screening program.


GDSP currently uses contract labs and prenatal diagnostic centers (PDC) throughout the state to test for potential risks during pregnancy. Most test results received from the labs are on hand-written forms, which are then scanned or keyed into the database – inevitably resulting in challenges for GDSP to accurately link the test results to the correct woman and her pregnancy.


In anticipation of the need to link test results from multiple labs and from two trimesters to the same pregnancy, CDPH sought a technology solution that would automate the matching process with the highest accuracy, reducing staffing costs and freeing up personnel to provide better care. After an extensive evaluation process in which multiple technology vendors were invited to the GDSP facility to match data in a test set, the Netrics Matching Platform provided the most accurate matching by successfully identifying 97 percent of the links in the test data.


Munson Healthcare Signs Multisuite Lawson Software Contract


Munson Healthcare licensed the Lawson Human Resource Management Suite and Lawson Business Intelligence, part of the Lawson S3 Enterprise Performance Management Suite.


The health care provider will use the Lawson system to consolidate administrative processes and support its integrated human resources and payroll services. The contract was signed during Lawson's first quarter of fiscal 2009, which ended August 31, 2008.

"Lawson's easy-to-use employee and manager self-service tools were a key factor in our decision," said Sue Peters, vice president of Human Resources for Munson Healthcare. "Lawson will help us streamline workforce management processes, including making it easier for existing staff to manage their benefits online."


Orange County Public Schools Selects Mimosa NearPoint


Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) selected Mimosa NearPoint next-generation email archiving solution to secure its email data while assuring efficient retention, search and recovery.


As the second largest employer in the region, OCPS has 25,000 employees serving more than 178,000 students in 180 schools throughout the district. The most active and critical communications vehicle for district employees to communicate with the various important audiences that support them is through email. The district today has 25,000 email users that are currently being migrated to Microsoft Exchange 2007. As part of this email migration process they also sought to improve their email protection strategy, which had become increasingly difficult to manage and maintain.


“We are getting increasing requests for email records recovery for litigation requirements,” said Pam Waugh, messaging administration, OCPS. “But we didn't have a way to intelligently search our email system to obtain the information that was needed. In fact, 90 percent of the time we couldn't deliver the information that our legal staff required. Beyond that, end user requests to restore individual mailboxes were hugely time consuming. We needed an easier solution and Mimosa NearPoint fit all of our criteria.”


Interior Health Authority of British Columbia Select VMware


Interior Health Authority (IHA) of British Columbia has standardized on VMware’s virtualization and management suite, VMware Infrastructure 3, to improve the resiliency, manageability and performance of essential applications.


IHA found itself adding as many as 10 hardware servers each week to keep pace with business demands. The space requirements and costs made that pace unsustainable. IHA brought in VMware to help the agency gain control over its IT environment by reversing the server sprawl and providing a more efficient way to manage critical applications and data stores.


“We needed to make a change and the VMware platform was the key enabler,” said Kris Jmaeff, information system security specialist, Interior Health Authority. “We wanted to get a handle on our hardware requirements and, just as importantly, we wanted an application environment that could scale reliably. VMware addressed both those issues and much more. By giving us greater control and predictability over application performance and availability, VMware is actually helping us improve patient care. And over the long run, it should deliver millions in cost savings by slashing server procurement dramatically.”


Deutsche Postbank Selects Asset Control 


Germany’s largest retail bank Postbank chose Asset Control’s AC Plus financial and reference data management software.


Postbank will use Asset Control to provide quality controlled pricing data to the bank’s risk control department and support its internal value at risk model for market risk. Postbank required a solution that could be implemented to meet its time-to-market objectives, while requiring only minimum IT resources in the day-to-day management of the system.


Guenter Fiebach, head of risk control at Postbank, said, “We chose Asset Control because the solution’s template-driven infrastructure will ensure a simpler initial implementation and allow us to meet our required timelines. The solution also provides a sophisticated workflow that will enable us to automate our data management processes ourselves over time. India Retailer Chooses the Netezza Appliance


Shoppers Stop, a premier Indian retail chain, selected the Netezza data warehouse appliance to provide faster and more comprehensive sales data analytics for its expanding retail operations throughout India.


The Netezza appliance will provide deep analytics on sales data and help Shoppers Stop better manage its loyalty card program, "First Citizen." Shoppers Stop will also use the Netezza appliance for campaign management and complex analytics on all of its data.

RBC Correspondent Services Uses SunGard’s Protegent


RBC Correspondent Services (RBC CS), a division of RBC Capital Markets Corporation, is using SunGard’s Protegent Surveillance to deliver compliance and surveillance functionality to its correspondent clearing clients as a core service offering. 


RBC CS has rolled out SunGard’s Protegent T+1 trade blotter to help its correspondents manage their own risk and trade surveillance process, while keeping up with the latest regulatory rules.

Swinton Insurance Picks SAS to Grow Customer Base


Swinton, a leading high-street insurance retailer, will use SAS to help acquire new customers and increase market share through improved marketing campaign effectiveness.


SAS will enable Swinton to create and automate more timely and targeted campaigns to attract new and lapsed customers, supporting its aim to become the leading retailer in the personal insurance market.

FDA Selects Appian BPM for Process-based Applications


The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) selected Appian Enterprise BPM Suite as its platform of choice for the development of process-centric applications.


The FDA, the scientific regulatory agency responsible for protecting and advancing the public health in the U.S., chose Appian’s comprehensive BPM Suite in support of a strategic vision to transform FDA operations in response to emerging scientific, technological and economic trends affecting its regulatory mission.


Using BPM technology, the FDA expects to provide more accurate and timely data with which to make decisions that directly affect its core duties. Additionally, the time and money saved using Appian will allow a greater opportunity to enhance services to the various FDA centers.


London NHS Foundation Trust Selects Information Builders


Central and North West London (CNWL) National Health Service Foundation Trust (NHS) signed an agreement with Information Builders to deploy a custom-built business intelligence (BI) solution across the organization.


Information Builders WebFOCUS platform will enable the Trust to measure its performance and make process improvements against government and local targets as part of the NHS commitment to providing quality patient care for all.


"The decision to implement the Information Builders solution is part of our commitment to high-quality care for everyone who uses our services,” said CNWL's John Vaughan, director of partnerships and commercial development. "We have approximately 3,400 members of staff at CNWL and a vast amount of information is held across different systems. This platform will integrate these systems, giving the Trust visibility into specific areas for improvement. Most importantly, CNWL management will no longer spend so much time sifting through vast quantities of data and instead can focus on putting improvement initiatives into action quickly.”


U.S. CDC Fights Infectious Disease Outbreaks with SPSS


To ensure health protection for U.S. citizens through promotion, prevention and preparedness, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) selected advanced data collection survey software from SPSS Inc. to analyze the source and spread of infectious diseases and prepare for and respond to urgent public health threats.


With SPSS data collection survey software, CDC can capture immediate feedback from citizens on critical public health information, regardless of geography or language, through a diverse array of communications devices to better understand behaviors and attitudes and devise the most appropriate response.


CDC has standardized with SPSS Dimensions data collection software as the foundation of its internal and external survey methodology. SPSS data collection software enables the agency to quickly design custom surveys for global research and reporting needs. CDC is able to securely deploy questionnaires via the Web, telephone, mobile devices or paper, and garner a high response rate.


Surf, Snow and Lifestyle Brand O'Neill Selects Lawson


O'Neill Europe signed a contract to implement Lawson Fashion, which is part of the Lawson M3 Enterprise Management System.


The company will use the Lawson solution to support its supply chain operations in Europe. Lawson Fashion helps companies synchronize demand and supply to help them respond faster to changing market conditions and improve profitability. It is designed to help improve customer service, shorten time-to-market and provide greater transparency and accuracy of key data.


"One of our objectives is to reduce the complexity of our current infrastructure, work toward a common, global and standardized platform, which will help improve the collaboration with our subsidiaries and our distribution and retail channels," said Arjan Kaaks, COO, CFO and project executive for O'Neill Europe. "Operating with an integrated and scalable ERP [enterprise resource planning] platform that is based on the latest technology will also help simplify our business processes and bring consistency and integrity to our company data."


Miwok Airways Selects Gigaspaces


Miwok Airways is the latest customer to use GigaSpaces cloud application server to run its real-time pricing engine and reservation system on the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2).


Combined with Amazon EC2, GigaSpaces’ platform allows Miwok to scale on demand and handle the complex transactional and data-intensive booking process, while only paying for servers and software when they are actually used.


“Cloud computing is an extremely appealing proposition to a business with such dynamic needs as ours,” said Veit Irtenkauf, Miwok Airways’ senior vice president, Products. “But implementing a complex system such as ours on Amazon EC2 is not trivial. We need a system that can deal with a massive amount of transactional data on a daily basis and required a solution that could easily scale and work well with Amazon EC2. GigaSpaces was the only application server on the market we could find that met these needs.”
