Q:

Can you provide me with the top data warehouse solution providers?

A:

Sid Adelman’s Answer: The Data Administration Newsletter has list of data warehouse vendors. The URL is www.tdan.com. Joyce Bischoff’s Answer: The top providers depend upon your requirements. I suggest that you see the Data Warehouse Newsletter Web site at www.tdan.com for a list of vendors and products. Develop your product requirements and contact the vendors to find out how they can meet your requirements. There is no “one solution fits” product out there. If you don’t know what you want, every vendor will claim to have “exactly what you need.”

Chuck Kelley’s Answer: It depends on what you mean by solution providers. Oracle will certainly sell you the database, ETL, query and reporting tools, data mining tools and consulting services to tie them all together, but not the hardware. IBM can probably sell it all. Consulting organizations can help you tie multiple products (from different vendors) to produce a solution. There are big names such as KPMG, Ernst & Young and Pricewaterhouse Coopers. There are the mid-size names such as Perot Systems, PRC, etc. There are the boutique shops such as Intelligent Solutions and Barquin International. Lastly (and, more importantly, he says with a fiendish grin :^} ) there are the small networked shops (like most of the authors in the Ask the Expert area). All can help you provide solutions to your organization. Shop around until you find the one who can provide the most expertise to help you with your data warehouse.

Joe Oates’ Answer: By this, I assume you mean companies that are capable of providing complete models or designs, analysis, design and implementation services, rather than a subset of these services. In my opinion, the top data warehouse vendors include Sybase BI, NCR, IBM and Oracle. There are many more companies that provide portions of these types of data warehouse solutions that are too numerous to list.

Clay Rehm’s Answer: I certainly have a bias and would recommend Rehm Technology!
