CA Technologies has forged a partnership with IT consultancy StratITsphere, which will see the IT consultant and data center services provider utilize CA’s cloud computing technologies as the backbone for its own cloud offerings.

CA said StratITsphere will use its cloud computing, energy management and service assurances solutions as part of a package of cloud-based services being marketed under the Nimbus banner.

Nimbus was developed with, and will be delivered on, the CA AppLogic cloud platform. It will include virtual private data centers with failover and disaster recovery capabilities.

“The demand for our co-location and hosted services is exploding as companies look to cloud computing to stretch every IT dollar as far as possible,” Stephen Webster, StratITsphere’s chief executive, said in a statement.

StratITsphere plans to use CA’s ecoSoftware to enable customers in its co-location facility to lower their electricity costs and to make their technology footprints more energy efficient. The software provides a window into energy consumption patterns at the device and system levels. The software also allows StratITsphere to provide automatic billing based on real energy use, as opposed to relying on estimates or time-consuming manual data collection.
