BACKGROUND: Chunghwa Telecom's Data Communication Business Group (DCBG) is the most innovative and aggressive data communication service provider in Taiwan. Established in 1996, DCBG ranks as a market leader. HiNet, the major business unit in the company, is listed among the top five ISPs in the world. It owns more than one third of the Internet market in Taiwan. HiNet offers such services as broadband access (xDSL, ISDN, optical fiber and ATM/FR) ISP, ICP, Payment Gateway, B2B and B2C hosting, IDC and Disaster Recovery Center (DRC). HiNet continues to increase its value-added services to provide full-scale coverage to its customers. HiNet is an established application service provider (ASP), offering CRM, ERP and SCM solutions. Using MetaEdge, HiNet introduced the first Internet enterprise business intelligence (IEBI) in Taiwan. MetaEdge's technology allows HiNet to prosper in a highly competitive market.

PROBLEM SOLVED: MetaEdge C-Insight application allows us to provide an Internet business intelligence solution. This saves our clients the costs of owning and maintaining expensive and powerful computers, hiring consultants, monitoring performances and keeping in-house MIS staff. In other words, the total solution relieves common pains of enterprises slow ROI and high TCO.
PRODUCT FUNCTIONALITY: C- Insight's Web Intelligence module allows HiNet to provide a unique added-value service. The solution enables our clients to improve customer management using functionalities such as Page View Behavior Analysis, Session Behavior Analysis, Referrer Analysis, Visitor Profile Analysis, Visitor Stickiness Analysis and Page/Region Stickiness Analysis. We will next integrate the analysis capabilities with a back-end customer database to provide a more complete view toward customer relationship management.
STRENGTHS: The beauty of the product is in its ASP-enabled technology. Providing services to customers through the Internet automatically and periodically is just not as easy as building it in house. With its unique data modeling methodology, C- Insight gives us the capacity to easily integrate different sources of data into the current solution. This will allow us to deliver more added-value services to growing businesses such as WAP and Internet one-on-one marketing.
WEAKNESSES: The only weakness we can see so far is in the choice of supported database platforms (SQL 7.0 and 2000 only). However, according to MetaEdge, C-Insight will support additional RDBMSs in future releases.
SELECTION CRITERIA: As a leading data communication service provider in the market, we want to offer our customers an expandable business solution that supports our ASP model. C-Insight fits these criteria.
DELIVERABLES: The solution delivers three kinds of Web-based output to our customers: the static business report, the OLAP report and the Web online report. The OLAP and online reports give our customers different views of their business results.
VENDOR SUPPORT: MetaEdge Taiwan provides technical and user training for our staff and customers. MetaEdge's technical support provides first-tier assistance.
DOCUMENTATION: Along with the installation of the solution, MetaEdge provides a complete set of documents including an end-user guide and technical operation guide. End- user training classes are held periodically by HiNet and sponsored by MetaEdge.
